Passion and Privilege relating to Into the Wild

I think the video, “Passion: Secret Ingredient to Success”, relates to passion because everyone shares a strong passion inside of their hearts, we just don’t know how to get there yet.  In order for us to get there, we need to become somewhat self-aware of how we act in current situations and become something of ourselves as we are now to do something and make a change, even if it’s a small thing.  Although that one small thing could sometimes make a humongous difference in the entire world that could either be negative or positive in the outcome of it.  I think that if we want to become a single nation where everyone is truly equal we need to show each and every one of us that they are not entirely different to other races in comparison.  I have this goal to become a completely different type of person where people would say, “Dayum this kid worked his butt off to get to where he’s at now.”  That’s the passion I see myself doing and that’s how these figures and brands started out as. They started out as small timers and are now well-known all around the globe.  It’s their passion that they carried along with them that made them whom they are today.  The desire for something greater and making a difference in people’s lives is what everyone in the entire world yearns for.  In the movie, Spiderman, Uncle Ben said, “With great power comes great responsibility”.  I believe in this quote because if you have a good career and a family due to the passion you had, then it is your responsibility to take care of those who stood up with you and supported you through them all, especially your parents.  Now I believe that every parent is a key figure in a teenager’s life.  Parents are there for a reason, they want what’s best for their children.  Even if it is to support their child on a path they don’t see them going far on, they have to have to support their decision anyways.  Therefore, the child gets to do what he/she wants to do for majority of his/her life.  The way I see it, everyone already looks up to other people, from the way they dress to the other persons’ career.  But in the book, Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer, Chris, the person he looks up to is a woman called “mother nature”.  Chris enjoys nature and connects to it and tries to become one with it.  Every sight he see, it’s magnificent and truly outstanding how no one else had ever done what Chris had done.  “I want to become like that one day.”  I’m sure everyone tells themselves that they want to become something greater in life, but how much passion do they have to achieve it? Is it too big, too little or just right? Is it too big of a passion where you lose sight of things, like turn your back on your family that helped you get to where you are? Is it too small where you had that spark but was only able to keep it on half way there? Or is it just right, where you can make it to your passion without losing sight to what matters the most to you or not being able to get there?  Passion has become a major topic in todays’ society and having it “just right” is where everyone needs to be at.
In the movie, “The Passion Project,” it spoke of classes and students’ reaction about their class. For example, people get up every morning and have this urge to learn something new.  Once they get there, it’s dull and it feels like forever in the classroom.  Every day I find my classes boring, because it’s the same routine for each lesson.  I sit down to what the teacher has to say, then the next class starts, then the next, then it’s just one big circle until the day ends.  It’s technically just one big “Blurr” is how I would describe it, however what exactly have you learned inside the classroom?  Do you just sit there, listen, and all of a sudden you understood everything that the teacher has come to say? No! That’s not how people work now-a-days.  People need to study constantly on the material they just learned in order for them to know the material thoroughly without doubting themselves if they are doing it right or not.  In the book, Into the Wild, it spoke of a quote about Westerberg, “you could tell right away that Alex was intelligent…He read a lot. Used a lot of big words.  I think maybe part of what got him into trouble was that he did too much thinking” (18).  To me, Alex probably learned all those words from just reading books, so technically he self-taught himself to learn those words and learn how to use it in a sophisticated way.  Most students in classrooms just wants to learn the easiest and quickest way to learn things, not the complexity of how things work and how to do it correctly step-by-step.  Students wants the “easy way” as in just teach how to do it the quickest way possible.  Especially in math…why do math instructors assume students wants to learn the long way in doing things and go by the book?  Current students are fond of the quickest way in figuring out the answer and that’s what will make them pay attention and study more.
I’m working on becoming an engineer and there are several math courses I have to learn.  The teachers would only teach us the long way in doing things and I’m sitting there in class thinking to myself, “Come on and show us the next thing already!”  I’m sure every student in math has come to this conclusion of just wanting the class to end because they are uninterested with the material even though math is what they need to achieve the profession they want. Similarly, in the book, Into the Wild, Chris found that every day was the same and wanted to experience the outside world for him.  He had the passion to take classes in college that would benefit him in his journey to Alaska.  The book, especially the movie, made me realize that we shouldn’t take things for granted and we should continue on with our lives.  In the movie I heard a phrase and it said, “I’ll be around to grow,” it spoke out to me, it felt as if every days I grow older and more wiser, I’m becoming a better man and I think that’s what everyone in the world is trying to become, “A better person.”  Chris wants to be alone in the wilderness and grow as aman of nature and not become the person his parents wants him to become, one of the reasons why he started this adventure in the first place.
The movie, “The Passion Project,” opened my minds to various ideas I haven’t come to realize up until now.  All teachers who has been teaching for more than 10 years, has lost some of their passion they had before. I feel like if a teacher wants to have that passion they had 10 years ago, then the students must show them that they are important and not just another talking textbook.  The students sitting in those chairs, especially those stubborn students who interrupt the class all the time, they just want to be out of the classroom immediately, because they feel like they are just sitting there listening to things that’s not important when in this case it does. Whether you go to a four-year college or a community, every class matters and you have to treat it as the career you are pursuing.  I also feel like teachers’ teaching in summer has more passion that those of others.  All teachers want a break from all the teaching, chaos, and grading they have to do.  I am currently taking summer classes and the teachers are great.  They make it feel like it’s not even a class, while I was learning new material critical to human society, I felt at ease.  Those teachers that are taking their breaks are the lazy ones.  It’s a whole different story if teachers decided to teach summer classes,
Terri Guillemets said, “Chase your passion as if it is the last bus of the night.”  This quote relates to what I did every day for the pass year.  I have been catching up to the bus and sometimes I would end up late but most of the time I would be there right on schedule.  Although I know that you can’t always be late for the bus to catch up for class, you have to think ahead of time. If you  feel as if you are going to be late for the bus judging on how you are moving in the morning, then get your hear working and start moving a lot quicker than you normally do.  The bus doesn’t wait for no one so why do you think it would wait for you, especially?  If you keep chasing the bus time after time and end up being late for it, then it’s not really a good image later in the future.   It can show how lazy you are when something is important and it has to be done immediately. In the movie, Romeo said, “It’s hard for me sometimes because there’s something where they expect you to become what they want to become. No one should tell me what to do but um my mom and my dad is trying to do my business in the future and then force me to take it,” I can see this relating to Chris in the book, Into the Wild, because Chris’s parents wanted him to go in the direction of a successful man and a good college where he can be someone.  Chris’s stood up to their expectations but soon after his graduation he planned to go to Alaska and disappear.  Chris had the passion to go to Alaska and it turned out he actually did.  All you can do is chase down your passion and make sure you grab a hold of it before it slips through your fingers.  If your passion manages to do slip through your fingers then it would probably be gone forever, until you do manage to find an opportunity to grab it once again.  For all we know maybe that opportunity could never come again and end up unhappy with your dead-end job.  Once you see it just around the corner you just can’t help but ignore it now because you notice that you let it slipped through your fingers once and now you are discouraged to grab a hold of it once again.  You cannot let that happen.  Even if you have a crappy life now and you think you can’t get that passion for the job you dreamed of having, then forget about it.  However, if you have that crappy life and you had one more shot at your dream then go for it because there is nothing stopping you now.  You’re wiser and more confident more than ever because you know the ways of the educational system now.  So chase it down and never let go of that passion because once it’s gone, it may never return again.
When I first glanced at the video of Jeff Bliss, I didn’t think much about the video until he started to rant on the teacher of her laziness.  I was flabbergasted on the way he was talking to her.  Like who talks like that to a teacher?  Hardly anyone talks like that to a teacher because they are afraid of being shut up.  When he first stood up and started speaking and saying all those bad words, I thought to myself, “Dayuum! He got guts!” I can’t imagine someone doing something like this in front of the class and lecturing the teacher for being lazy at the same time.  When he volunteered to exit the room not because the teacher told him to but on his own free will he offered and said, “Come find me when you want me to teach you on how to be a real teacher,” I was in awe. I believe that the way he stood up against his teacher is the beginning for greater education system all around the globe.  With adjustments made to the teachers, we need to do the same with the students as well.
Every student needs to start learning how to get out of their comfort zone of beign scared in class.  If we continue to be scared in class, how would you expect to actually learn things?  We all know how to learn things if we ask for help.  We ask for help outside of class and we are able to do it now without hesitation, so why can’t we do the exact same thing inside the classroom?  There’s no difference inside and outside of class, you’re asking a person a question you don’t know.  If people, especially students, don’t know anything, don’t hesitate to ask someone who truly knows it because they can help you with something that could benefit you later in your future.  In the movie, Into the Wild, Chris went to ask for help on how to skin a freshly hunted animal. Later, Chris used that knowledge to good use and actually skinned an animal.  Self-motivation is what everyone needs nowadays because all we get is low self-esteem now.  We all put each other down or ourselves down.  With more motivation, we could make a difference in a person’s life and make them feel like they can actually do something in the world they didn’t think was possible at the time.  We are all capable of doing so much more than we know.  “There’s more to a person than meets the eye,” is one of my favorite quotes.  We just take a sudden glance at a person and think to ourselves, “This person isn’t going to be huge.” Or “This person is going to be nobody in the near future.” Don’t deny it we all look at other people like that as if they can’t carve out their life without everyone helping them.  I also think Andrade is completely correct about everything that goes on in our educational system and that it could use some more changing in some ways that can support students to get out of their comfort zone so that they could participate more.  Schools have a lot of funding and why not use that funding to make programs where students can get out of their comfort zones and become what we all know as “students.”
Everyone knows what they want to be in the future, but as they get further and further in education they start to fall off the train as if they are wandering and exploring around.  After watching, “Focusing the Laser,” I do see some resemblances of me in it.  I kind of know which direction I want to go but at the same time, I’m not quite sure if I want to go there or not.  To be honest, I have thoughts about once again changing my major.  I never thought that being able to transfer to a 4-year college was going to be so difficult.  I am now on my second year and I’m not even close into transferring, I’m starting to think that I’ll be able to transfer in 4 years.  So now that I think about the video I am more like a wanderer and an explorer.  I’m just taking classes that enables me to transfer onto a 4-year and I’m doing what the video says, “I feel like I am just paying for the classes, buying the books without knowing which direction I am going.”  That is exactly what I am doing right now.  So now that I look at it I’m like a wanderer and explorer because I know what I want to have as a full-time career, but at the same time I am just walking around biting my ails and not taking the necessary classes needed ofr that major to transfer out to a 4-year college.
I feel like being a wanderer and explorer isn’t all that great at all.  I mean no one wants to take random classes and not know what major they want to become.  We all want to be set focused on one major and stick to it, but in our current educational system it is very much difficult to do so.  It is hard to find the right major for you because of all the clutter in your mind.  With taking care of the family, while managing your job and school both at the same time.  It’s very difficult task to keep your mind set and that burning passion for your major when you have all those responsibilities. If I would be able to change categories I would most definitely try to become a laser.  They know what kind of career they want to go to and what kind of classes they need to take.  I mean who doesn’t want to be in the laser category? I bet mostly everyone that are in the other categories wants to go in the laser category, just to see how it is.  They would know which classes to take and what major they want to be in without having to change it once in a while.
I am hoping to change my category while not changing my major.  I was set on going into electrical engineering until later on in the semester.  I spoke with my counselor and she explained what electrical engineering is.  Then she asked me, “What kind of major do you have second in mind?”  After I told her that I was a hands-on type of person, she suggested mechanical engineering.  Then it struck me, that’s the type of major I want to take and be with as a full-time career.  We went through a lot of steps on what kind of classes I should be taking in order for me to pursue mechanical engineering. Even though my gradesfrom my pass classes weren’t so good, I told myself that this coming semester was going to be different and I would be studying my butt off to get an “A” or a “B” no matter what.  So overall, I think that once I do well this coming semester then I know for sure that there is nothing stopping me from achieving my goal as a mechanical engineer.  If I am able to change m category and become successful on the direction where I’m going then I will be successful for the rest of my life as long as I live.  But what is a successful person?
To me, success means having a family, achieving your dreams, and having no financial worries.  Everyone knows that a family is the first step in a life full of success.  Family can help you through your obstacles you are facing, and they can give you support and would always be there for you no matter what their status is whether they are rich or poor.  They would always be there for you.  The next step is being able to achieve your dreams like: having your dream job that you would be able to stick to for the rest of your life, being able to help other family members when they are in dire need for money, being able to provide for your children whey go to college and paying for their expenses they may need to have for their dream job, without financial worries.  Everyone worries about not being able to pay the bills, having their car repossessed, and being evicted from their home.
What helps me succeed in my community so far is the support I have from my family and friends.  My family helps me to become successful, more importantly my mom.  She has been taking care of my financial aid so that I wouldn’t have to worry about it.  However, I need to start taking care of my own financial aid and become my own man.  My friends help me through my stuff as well because they help me with the classes I should be taking instead of the other classes.  They informed me about my classes and I noticed that I have been taking unnecessary classes. The only think that is truly preventing me from succeeding in my community is the transportation and money.  I have to keep waking up an hour early before my class starts to take the bus and I arrive only minutes away before class starts.  It gets to me once in a while, but then I notice that I could study while on the bus and I think it’s helping me.  Money is a little of a concern because I have to pay for my books alone, pay for my bus fair, and my food.
I think students able to critique education is a great idea because everyone learns certain subjects in different ways and critiquing it is a great idea when it comes to the way each person learns.  A student is struggling on a certain subject because he/she learned it differently from another country or state, then shouldn’t we be able to adapt to that kind of strategy as well.  The students probably had a 4.0 or greater because of that certain type of strategy.  If he/she moved to a different place and then the students GPA probably dropped to a 3.0 out of nowhere and their parents are wondering why, then we should take that type of strategy and apply it to the current educational learning strategy.  Maybe it would benefit other students as well as the foreign exchange students.  Every student is able to find at least one or two problems within the school they are learning at but is still not able to speak up.  Now if every student was able to speak up without any consequences held for their actions then we would be able to take in those critiques and make the education system work for every single student trying to learn.  It would benefit us all not just the students but even the teachers and the educational system everywhere.  Critiquing is one of the things that not everyone thinks of doing.  Some people think they are perfect in every way possible, but that’s the problem if you think you’re problem free because you’re probably not a complete person.  When I mean “complete person,” I mean you have a passion to become someone better than what you are now.  Everyone has flaws that they wish they could improve, but not everyone has enough passion to do it.  If they do have enough passion and that “change” keeps slipping through their fingers but is still willing to try to become a better, then that is a “complete person” is to me.  I for one want to become someone better than what I am today.  If I don’t have something I would change about myself then I am not a “complete person.”  Get where I am going with this?  To be a “complete person,” you must have a passion to change who you are and make yourself a better human being or person.
Everyone has a passion to become someone and become something greater. The passion to become successful in life and make a difference in the community all around you is what I too want to become. Education is just the first step to push your passion and achieve your dream.  Obstacles may come up such as a lazy teachers and students standing up for what they believe a real education should be and actually try to put a stop to the lazy teacher.  Students know how hard it is to transfer to a 4-year college we all want to transfer to one, but achieving it is no easy task.  No one knows what the world may become in the future, but we all take it one step at a time to make it better.  With each and every good step forward, is a step towards a brighter future that can push the envelope to what we think it can be.  Each and every passion that is achieved will make for a good future for our education , for each other, and for our own desired future.

Critique Education And Yourself

I think students should be able to critique education is a good idea, because everyone learns certain subjects in different types of ways and critiquing it is a great idea when it comes to this.  If perhaps a student is struggling on a certain subject, because he/she learned it differently from another country or state, then shouldn’t we be able to adapt to that kind of strategy as well.  The student probably had a 4.0 or greater because of that certain type of strategy but since he/she moved to a different country/state, and then the students GPA probably dropped to a 3.0 out of nowhere and their parents are wondering why.  If we somehow took that type of strategy and applied it to the current educational learning strategy maybe it would benefit other students as well as the exchange student.  Another example would be if a student is questioning how the teacher is teaching the class or finds something wrong in the education system, shouldn’t the student be willing enough to critique the problem without any consequences at all. Every student is able to find at least one or two problems within the school but is still not able to speak up.  Now if every student was able to speak up without any consequences then we would be able to take in those critiques and make the education system work for every single student trying to learn.  It would benefit us all not just the students but even the teachers and the educational system everywhere.
Critiquing yourself is one thing that not everyone thinks of doing.  Everyone thinks they are perfect in every way and they have no problems, but that’s the problem if you think you don’t have a problem in your life, then you’re not completely a complete person.  When I mean “complete person” I mean you have a passion to become someone better than what you have become right now.  Everyone has flaws that they wish they could change, but not everyone has enough passion to do it.  But if they do have enough passion and that “change” keeps slipping through their fingers but is still willing to try to become better, then that is what a “complete person” is to me. I for one wants to become someone better than what I am today, if I don’t have something I would change about myself then I for one is not a “complete person”. Get where I am going with this? To be a “complete person” you must have a passion to change who you are and make yourself a better woman/man.

Focusing The Lasers Response

After watching this video I do see some resemblances, like me, I kind of know which direction I want to go but all at the same time I’m not quite sure if I want to go there or not.  To be honest I am having thoughts about once again changing my major.  I never thought that being able to transfer to a 4-year was going to be so hard.  I am now on my second year and I’m not even close into transferring and I’m starting to think that once I’ll be able to transfer would be in 4 years. So now that I think about the video I am more likely a wanderer and explorer.  I’m just taking classes I think would be able to transfer and all that I am doing is like they said, “paying for the classes, buying the books”, that is all I think I am doing right now.  I fit in the wanderers and explorers both at the same time mostly because I know what I want to do as a full time career later in my career as a professional, but at the same time I am just walking around biting my nails and not taking the necessary classes needed for that major to transfer to a 4-year college.

I feel like being a wanderer and an explorer isn’t all that great at all. I mean no one wants to take random classes and not know what major they want to become.  We all want to be set focused on one major and stick to it, but in our current educational system it is very much difficult to do so. Peoples’ passion varies among others and we all have that passion for that certain major, but it is hard to find it among all the clutter in your mind, about probably taking care of family, managing a job and school both at the same time.  It’s very difficult to keep your mind set and keep that burning passion for your major in your mind when you have all those thoughts in your mind.

If I would be able to change categories I would most definitely try to become a laser.  They know what kind of career they want to go to and what kind of class they want to take.  I mean who doesn’t want to be in the laser category.  I bet mostly everyone that is in the other categories wants to go in the laser category, just to see how it is. Knowing which classes to take and what major they want to be in, without having to change it all the time.  Once in the laser category there is no doubt what you are going to become in the future with that major.

I am hoping to change my category by not changing my major.  I was set on going onto electrical engineer until later on in the semester while talking to my councilor that all it is, is just playing around with some electrics and watts.  Then she asked me, “What kind of major do you have second in mind?” then I told her that I’m a hands-on type of person.  So then she suggested that I do mechanical engineering.  Then it struck me that that’s the type of major I want to take and be with as a full-time career.  Then we went through a lot of steps on what kind of classes I should be taking and all that stuff.  Then I got my mind straight.  I was set. Even though my grades from my pass classes wasn’t so good, I told myself that this coming semester was going to be different and I would be studying my butt off to get an “A” or a “B” no matter what.  So overall, I think that once this coming semester finishes and I did really good at it, then I know for sure that there is nothing stopping me from achieving my goal as a mechanical engineer.

My Pros And Cons For Success

To me success means having a family, achieve your dreams, and having no financial worries.  Everyone knows that a family is the first step in a life full of success.  Family can help you through your obstacles you are facing, and they can give you support and would always be there for you no matter what their status is whether they are rich or poor, they would always be there for you.  The next step is being able to achieve your dreams like: having your dream job that you would be able to stick with for the rest of your life to support your family, be able to help other family members when they are in dire need for money to help them with their bills, and being able to provide finances for your children when they go to college and pay for other expenses they may need to have the dream job.  And last but not least, no financial worries.  Everyone worries whether or not they will be able to pay the bills and have their car repossessed, have their house taken away every little thing.  Everyone worries about their finance and where they might be if they aren’t able to pay the bills.

What helps me succeed in my community so far is the support I have from my family and friends.  My family helps me to become successful, more importantly my mom.  She has been taking care of my financial aid and stuff so that I wouldn’t have to worry about it.  But I know that I would have to get into the rhythm of being able to take care of my own financial aid and become my own man.  My friends help me through my stuff as well, because they help me with the classes I should be taking instead of the other classes.  They tell me this and that and I notice that I have been taking classes I didn’t really need until they showed me it.  The only thing that is truly preventing me from succeeding in my community is the transportation and money.  Transportation, I have to keep waking up early, like an hour early before my class starts to take the bus to my class and I arrive only minutes away from class starting.  It gets to me once in a while, but then I notice that I could study while on the bus and I think it’s helping me both ways it benefits and doesn’t benefit me in succeeding in my community.  Money is a little of a concern, because I do have to pay for my books alone and have to pay for my bus fair and my food other than that, that’s it.

Duncanville TX HighSchool

When I first glanced at the video of the guy in the red shoe I didn’t think much about the video, but as he started ranted on the teacher of his/her laziness.  I was flabbergasted on the way he was talking to the teacher.  Like who talks like that to a teacher?  Hardly anyone talks like that to a teacher, because they are afraid of rising up and speak their minds.  When students realize their teacher is lazy they are afraid of what kind of consequences would become of it.  When he first stood up and saying all those bad words and all that I thought to myself “Dayuum! He got guts!”  I can’t imagine someone doing something like this in front of the class and lecturing the teacher for being lazy at the same time.  When he volunteered to exit the room not because the teacher told him too but on his own free will and offered to come into her class and lecture her again.  I thought to myself, “Finally!”  When will this epidemic of laziness in teachers come to an end, I believe that the way he stood up against this teacher is the seed for something greater in our educational system all around the globe.

Passion: The Secret Ingredient To Success

I think this video relates to passion because everyone has a passion that is very deep inside of their hearts, we just don't know how to get there. In order for us to get there we need to become somewhat self-aware of how we act in current times and become something ourselves as we are now to do something and make a change, even if it’s a small thing.  Although that one small thing could sometimes make a humongous difference in the entire world that could either be negative or positive in the outcome of it, if it were to become something huge. I think that if we were to become a single nation where everyone is truly equal we need to show each and every person that they are not that different to other people in comparison. I have this strive to where I want things to become something different something magnificent that everyone can look upon and say, "dayum this kid worked his butt off to get to where he's at now". That’s the passion I see myself doing and that’s what these figures, and brands that started out as a small timers but is now a big timer that everyone knows.  It's their passion that they carried, that holy torch that made them to who or what they are today.  Without their passion for what they love to do they can't achieve what they truly desire.  The desire for something greater and making a difference in a person’s life or in everyone life is what everyone in the entire world strives to become. The passion to be a key figure to young beings and show them that they can become who they want to be as long as they have passion inside of their hearts, then they can truly achieve greatness. Now I believe that every parents’ is a key figure. The way I see it is that everyone already looks up to others, from people looking at how others dress, the way they walk in and out of the store and asks themselves, "I want to become like that one day." I'm sure every people tell themselves that they want to become something greater, but how much passion do they have to achieve it. Is it too big, too small, or just right? Is it too big of a passion where you lose sight of things, like turn your back on your family that helped you get to where your at. Is it too small where you had that spark but was only able to achieve it half way to where you wanted it to be at. Or is it just right where you can make it to your passion without losing your sight to what matters the most to you or not being able to get there.  Passion can become major in todays’ society and having it "just right" rest assured you are going to get there and make a difference in the world you never knew you could.
